Background to the project

The masterplan project team appointed by LB Waltham Forest in December 2010 is led by architects and urban designers Maccreanor Lavington.   The team also includes Gort Scott (urban design and architecture) and Drivers Jonas Deloitte (property and financial consultants).

The masterplan report is currently expected to be delivered to the Council in April 2011.

The project is to develop a masterplan for the Arcade site and Town Square and gardens, with a focus on the design and quality of public realm.   This work will build on previous work, to provide a clear strategy for delivering regeneration in this area, and will aim to maximise opportunities and benefits for the local community and across the whole of the borough.  It will form part of a future planning policy framework through the emerging Area Action Plan for Walthamstow Town Centre.

To achieve a successful outcome, we have been asked to work closely with the newly-appointed developers the Arcade site (Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association) and their architects to ensure that a meaningful outline design is generated.  The design should tie in with a holistic approach to the town centre area, including the relationship between the Arcade Site, the High Street and the Town Square and gardens.

We will also be consulting key stakeholders including local residents, local business organisations and community groups.
